Store information

The total area of the National Palace Museum Southern Branch is about 70 hectares, including 20 hectares in the museum area and 50 hectares in the park. The building was designed by Kris Yao. Based on the concept of "thick ink", "flying brush" and "blending" in traditional Chinese ink painting, a streamlined shape of virtual and real body interweaving with each other was developed.

The “Moyun Hall”, the real body, mainly functions as exhibition halls and cultural relics warehouses; the “Feibai Hall”, the virtual body, has reception hall, museum education space, catering and souvenir shops, etc. the central walkway starts from the landscape bridge at the southern end, passing through the atrium surrounded by the virtual and real body in a winding curve, which is blending. These three curves also symbolize the three ancient civilizations of China, India and Persia, which have gathered and exchanged in the long river of history and derives a splendid and diverse Asian art and culture.

Most of the exhibits in the southern branch of the National Palace Museum are borrowed from the three collections of paintings and calligraphy, utensils, and documents in the northern branch of the museum to construct a large-scale theme exhibition with both quality and quantity. Launched in 2019, the “Coordinates of the Soil - Ceramics Collection Exhibition”, “Masterpieces of Famous Mountains - Special Exhibition of Mount Lushan Painting by Zhang Daqian” and “Exhibition of National Treasures and Cultural Relics (Meat-shaped Stones)” had brought the spotlights for the southern branch.

In order to encourage children to explore the diversity of Asian culture, the first floor of the museum was planned for the “Children's Creative Center”, a learning space for children aged 5-12, covering an area of 340 square meters. There are four theme interactive exhibition areas and special exhibition areas for Asian culture in the center, including Asian circular theater, ceramics, textiles, tea culture, and Asian theater. It is hoped that through multimedia interactive installations, DIY operation, game experience, etc., children's interest in learning will be stimulated, and interaction and connection with the exhibition experience of the South Campus will be generated.
