In 2025, coinciding with the centennial of the National Palace Museum, the Southern Branch presents an unprecedented heavyweight exhibition showcasing for the first time the "Three Great Monuments of Northern Song Landscape" paintings, a rare opportunity!
🎨 The pinnacle of Northern Song landscapes, all in one view
This exhibition focuses on the golden age of Chinese landscape painting—the Northern Song. The three treasures of the gallery include:
1. Fan Kuan's Travellers Amid Streams and Mountains: Featuring the majestic main peak and the powerful "raindrop texture" technique, this painting establishes a monumental example of landscape art, showcasing the grandeur and solemnity of nature.
2. Guo Xi's Early Spring: With clouds and vitality, capturing the spirit and charm of ink landscapes during seasonal transitions with unique "crab claw branches" and "rolling cloud texture".
3. Li Tang's Thousands of Valleys and Winds: Combining the grand structure of Northern Song with the delicate brushwork of the Southern Song, this painting depicts the profound atmosphere of whispering pines through the robust "axe-cut texture".

The total area of the Southern Branch is about 70 hectares, including 20 hectares of museum and 50 hectares of parkland. The museum building, designed by architect Yao Renxi, is inspired by the traditional ink painting techniques of "dense ink," "flying white," and "gradation," creating interwoven volumes of solid and void.
The majority of the exhibits in the Southern Branch are borrowed from the Northern Branch, including paintings, artifacts, and documents, creating large-scale thematic exhibitions of both quality and substance. Exhibitions like "Coordinates of Earth: Museum's Collection of Ceramics," "Masterpieces of Famous Mountains—Zhang Daqian's Mount Lu Special Exhibition," and "National Treasure Artifact (Meat-shaped Stone) Exhibition" have been highlights, bringing high popularity to the Southern Branch.

To encourage children to explore the diversity of Asian cultures, a learning space "Children's Creativity Center" for children aged 5-12 is planned on the first floor of the museum, covering 340 square meters. The center includes an Asian circular theater and interactive exhibits on ceramics, textiles, tea culture, Asian theater, and a special exhibition area on Asian culture, designed to spark children's interest in learning through multimedia interactions, DIY activities, and game experiences, promoting engagement with the museum's exhibitions.
